Community Workshops in Blackwall Reach

Happy New Year dear readers! We truly hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas break! We are busy preparing some joyful designs for the next few months which are going to be exciting, but in the meantime we would like to update you on the events which happened in November and December 2021.

First of all, our first indoor workshop for this project was finally able to come together. The Free Zine workshop took place at the Dock Coffee and the owner, Lananh, was extremely kind to provide a space for us to host the event. The whole evening was an ode to great food, togetherness and for the most adventurous: zine-making!

We were so overwhelmed by the participation of the residents in Blackwall Reach. We had 17 tickets available, but we ended up with around 20 participants . Thank you to all who showed up!

How did we get in contact with you?

We distributed 500 flyers around all the six residential buildings located in the area and we run a 2 days promoted campaign online to make sure everyone knew about the event.

This first workshop really helped us narrowing down the elements for the concept design of the artwork for the new Millennium Green. Among the themes that have emerged were: Colours, Narrative, Inclusiveness and Sensory.

After collating all these elements, we began to test, analyse and put them into the mix.

Few weeks after the successful workshop at the Dock Coffee, we ran a series of workshops over 3 weeks; 1 session a week with the sewing and English classes at the Hub Reach. All the beautifully designed zines by the local residents really started to inspire us on the final design that will truly reflect the community in Blackwall Reach.

We are now in the final stage of finessing our proposals for the artwork in the new Millennium Green. Stay tuned for more info and update!
